The Income Tax Department of India issues a distinctive ten-digit alphanumeric code called Permanent Account Number or PAN which serves as a unique ID for individuals and entities in India.
This identifier, presented on a laminated plastic card is mainly used for tax-related activities.
Moreover, PAN is a crucial document for filing income tax returns, performing high-value transactions, and maintaining communication between the Income Tax Department and the taxpayers.

Furthermore, your PAN facilitates the monitoring and prevention of tax evasion by linking all financial transactions of an individual or entity to their PAN.
The Finance Act of 2017 amended the Income Tax Act of 1961, introducing Section 139AA, which mandates individuals eligible for an Aadhaar to provide their Aadhaar number when applying for a PAN or filing an income tax return, effective from July 1, 2017.
This requirement ensures the authenticity of the PAN and diminishes the likelihood of individuals having multiple PANs.
PAN Aadhaar card link status check: Without logging into the Income tax portal
Firstly, you have to visit Income Tax e-filing portal and find the ‘Quick Links’ section and select ‘Link Aadhaar Status’.
Now input your ‘PAN number’ and ‘Aadhaar Number’, and then click the ‘View Link Aadhaar Status’ button.
Upon successful validation, you will receive a message reflecting the status of your Aadhaar-PAN linking.
Aadhaar Card PAN Card Link Status check: From direct link
To check the status of your PAN-Aadhaar linking directly, you have to visit https://eportal.incometax.gov.in/iec/foservices/#/pre-login/link-aadhaar-status.
Then just enter your PAN and Aadhaar numbers, then click on ‘View Link Aadhaar Status’. The status of your PAN-Aadhaar linking will be displayed.

Check PAN Aadhaar card link status via SMS
Send an SMS in the format: UIDPAN <12-digit Aadhaar number> <10-digit PAN number>.
Send the SMS to either ‘567678’ or ‘56161’ and wait for response.

Check PAN Aadhaar card link status via Income Tax portal
Sign in to the Income Tax e-filing portal and go to the ‘Dashboard’ on the homepage. Now select the ‘Link Aadhaar Status’ option, or, you can go to ‘My Profile’ and click on the ‘Link Aadhaar Status’ option.
