In Maharashtra, the Mahayuti alliance – comprising BJP, Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) and NCP (Ajit Pawar faction) – fared far behind Maha Vikas Aghadi – comprising Congress, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) and NCP (Sharad Chandra Pawar).
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday offered to resign from the post after BJP-led NDA’s poor performance in state in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
While addressing the media, Fadnavis said, “I take the responsibility for such results in Maharashtra. I was leading the party. I am requesting the BJP high command to relieve me from the responsibility of the government so that I can work hard for the party in upcoming elections.”

“This debacle that happened in Maharashtra, our seats have reduced, the entire responsibility for this is mine. I accept this responsibility and will try to fulfill whatever is lacking. I am not a person who will run away… we will prepare a new strategy and after preparing a new strategy we will go among the public,” Fadnavis said.

In Maharashtra, the Mahayuti alliance – comprising BJP, Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) and NCP (Ajit Pawar faction) – fared behind Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) – comprising Congress, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) and NCP (Sharad Chandra Pawar).
According to the Election Commission of India (ECI) data, of the 48 Lok Sabha constituencies, MVA won 30 seats with the Indian National Congress winning 13 seats, Shiv Sena (UBT) winning nine seats and NCP (Sharad Pawar camp) winning eight seats. On the other hand, BJP won nine seats, Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde camp) won seven seats and NCP (Ajit Pawar camp) won just one seat, taking the Mahayuti tally to 17 seats.
