Coal India produced 126.2 million tons of coal during April-May period, up 7.4 per cent from 117.5 million tons during the same period previous year.
State-owned Coal India and its subsidiaries recorded coal production of 64.4 million tons in the month of May 2024 in comparison to 59.9 million tons in May 2023, posting a growth of 7.5 per cent. It also announced that it produced 126.2 million tons of coal during April-May period, up 7.4 per cent from 117.5 million tons during the same period previous year.

Meanwhile, coal offtake increased to 68.2 million tons during the month of May as against 63.7 million tons during the same period last year, recording a growth of 7.2 per cent. The total offtake of coal during the April-May period increased to 132.3 MT, up 5 per cent from 125.9 MT in the corresponding period last fiscal.
Coal India released the provisional and off-take performance of the company and its subsidiary companies for the month of May 2024 and for the period April- February 2024 in a regulatory filing.

CIL had reported a production of 61.8 million tonnes in the month of April, posting an increase of 7.3 per cent on-year. The company’s coal offtake was at 64.3 MT during April, over 62.3 MT in the year-ago period, up 3.2 per cent.
CIL accounts for over 80 per cent of domestic coal production.

Earlier last month, CIL reported its fiscal fourth quarter earnings with profit growth of 26 per cent to Rs 8,640.5 crore from Rs 6,869.5 crore recorded in the year-ago period. There was a rise in CIL’s bottom line despite its revenue from operations falling nearly 2 per cent to Rs 37,410.4 crore in the quarter under review as against Rs 38,152.3 crore in the same quarter last year.
