Indian Railways relaxes distance restriction for purchasing e-tickets through UTS Mobile app – Details inside

The benefit of eliminating the distance restrictions will provide greater convenience and flexibility as they will no longer be limited to geographical limitations, stated the Bengaluru Division of South Western Railway (SWR).

Indian Railways has removed the distance restrictions for the sale of e-tickets through the UTS (Unreserved Ticket System) mobile app. The changes have been made by taking out geo-fencing limitations, as per officials. The initiative has been taken to make the process of buying e-tickets smoother for commuters with the UTS mobile app.

New Norms:

As per revised rules, ”the journey should begin within one hour of buying the ticket. Paperless unreserved journeys, season tickets or platform can be purchased from any suburban and non-surban stations which are within five meters of the campus. Nevertheless, curtailment on purchasing tickets within the train and station premises will prevent misuse,’’ said the Public Relations Office of South Western Railway (Bengaluru Division), Thrinethra KR in a statement.

Earlier, to buy an unreserved paperless ticket on the app the outer distance restriction was limited to 20 km for suburban trains and 50 km for non-urban stations. SWR in its latest move has removed this constraint. Now, passengers can purchase tickets from any location without any distance barrier.

UTS mobile app integrates with UPI:

‘’To further streamline the payment process, the UTS on Mobile app has now integrated with UPI apps, which will allow passengers to complete the transactions with ease by using their preferred UPI app,’’ the statement mentioned.

Benefits of UTS mobile app:

Travelers can enjoy a three percent bonus on tickets that are bought through the R wallet by using UTS mobile app.

A three percent discount will be offered on the ticket value.

The bonus points will attract passengers to use the app and enhance their travel experience in large.
