The Opposition has become so frustrated with election losses that abusing has become its nature, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday, adding that after 24 years of being abused, he has become “gaali-proof”. In an interview to news agency ANI, PM Modi recalled being called ‘maut ka saudaagar‘, a phrase first used by then Congress president Sonia Gandhi before the 2007 Gujarat Assembly elections.

“As far as Modi is concerned, after being continuously abused for the last 24 years, I have become ‘gaali-proof’. Who called me ‘maut ka saudaagar‘ and ‘gandi naali ka keeda‘?” he said during the interview.

“Our party member in Parliament did the calculation and counted 101 abuses. So whether there is an election or no election, these people believe that only they have the right to abuse. They have become so frustrated that now abusing has become their nature…” he added.

Countering the Opposition’s allegations that ED, CBI and other federal agencies are being used to suppress BJP rivals, PM Modi said: “Ask the person who is throwing this garbage, what is the proof of what you are saying?… I will convert this garbage into manure and will produce some good things for the country from it…”

“When Manmohan Singh was in power for 10 years, Rs 34 lakh were seized. In the last 10 years, ED has seized Rs 2,200 crore. The one who has brought back Rs 2,200 crore to the country should be respected and not abused. The one whose money has gone is abusing… It means that whoever has a part in stealing money will shout a little after being caught… Today, a sarpanch has the right to sign on a chequebook but the Prime Minister of the country does not have it… Modi government has told its officers that my government has zero tolerance towards corruption.”

During campaigning for ongoing Lok Sabha elections, PM Modi had said at multiple rallies that the Opposition, convinced it won’t win the polls, resorts to abusing him as it lacks a roadmap for the nation’s progress. He has alleged that the INDIA bloc leaders are working to protect the corrupt, and are abusing and threatening him to hinder the country’s development.

“In reality, they do not want to stop Modi. Those in the INDI alliance want to stop the development of the country,” he had said at a rally in Bhopal earlier. “That is why they are abusing and threatening me. I have left everything to dedicate myself to the mission of serving the country. For Modi, Bharat is my family. Those who have come into politics to fill their own coffers should not abuse me,” he had added.
