What is Eid-ul-Adha/Bakrid?
Eid-ul-Adha is referred to as Bakrid in India. The day commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s (also known as Abraham’s) sacrifice. It is thought that God tested him by asking him to sacrifice his own son.
Muslims commemorate Ibrahim’s dedication by celebrating Eid-ul-Adha every year. It is celebrated by sacrificing a lamb or an animal, which is then divided into three parts. One portion is maintained at home, while the remaining two shares are distributed to the poor and needy.
