MSME license: How to migrate from previous Udyog Aadhaar to new Udyam registration online?

The MSME Ministry introduced the Udyam registration portal in July 2020 for businesses leverage different schemes of the ministry to access credit, market their product, and more. Till July 2020, the Udyog Aadhaar Memorandum (UAM) launched in September 2015, was necessary for businesses to register as MSMEs.

However, to allow registered businesses continue benefitting from various schemes, the government urged enterprises to move to the Udyam registration portal. The UAM license, with 1.02 crore holders, was valid till June 2022. As of May 24, 4.45 crore businesses were registered as MSMEs under the Udyam registration portal. For businesses looking to switch to the Udyam portal from UAM, here are the steps:

  • Click on ‘For those already having registration as UAM’ on the Udyam registration portal 
  • Enter your UAM number and verify it through an OTP on mobile or email 
  • Click on ‘Yes’ under ‘Migration from UAM to Udyam Registration’ 
  • Click on ‘Migrate’ under ‘Do you want to migrate from Udyog Aadhaar Memorandum to Udyam Registration?’ 
  • Give your consent for the ministry to use your PAN and company details for MSME classification 
  • Click on ‘Validate PAN’ and then click on ‘Continue’ 
  • Some fields in the form will be disabled which will get automatically filled after verification from PAN data 
  • Click on ‘Yes’ where it confirms for GSTIN 
  • Provide your details such as name, email, mobile number, social category, gender, etc., along with company name and address 
  • In case you have a previous EM-II or UAM, select ‘EM-II’ or ‘Previous UAM’ 
  • Provide details including registration date, date of commencement, bank details, type of activity whether manufacturing or services 
  • Provide NIC code for the business activity you are undertaking 
  • Confirm the total employee strength 
  • The ‘Written Down Value’ and ‘Total Turnover’ details will be auto-filled in the form if you had filed ITR for the previous year  
  • Enter ‘Exclusion of Cost of Pollution Control, Research & Development and Industrial Safety Devices’ and ‘Net Investment in Plant and Machinery or Equipment’  
  • Click on ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ in case you want auto-registration on different portals by the government such as GeM, TReDS portal, National Career Service portal, NSIC’s B2B portal etc 
  • ‘District Industries Centre’ detail will be pre-filled; click on ‘Submit and Get Final OTP’  
  • Share the OTP received and click on ‘Final Submit’  
  • You are now migrated to the Udyam portal with your Udyam registration number displayed on the page
