Maharashtra Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Security Heightened In Mumbai, Highways And Roads Barricaded – Here’s All You Need To Know

Ahead of voting in the Maharashtra Lok Sabha Elections 2024 during the fifth phase on May 20, security in Mumbai has been increased, large-scale spot checks are being carried out and barricades have also been installed on highways and roads.

Maharashtra Lok Sabha Elections 2024: The country is currently in the midst of its biggest political event as the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 are underway and the fifth phase of these general elections will be held on Monday, May 20 across 49 constituencies of six states and two union territories. During the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 Phase 5, voting will also be held in all six parliamentary seats of Mumbai and therefore, to ensure a smooth experience and no violence or problems, the Mumbai Police has become extremely active and the security in the Maharashtra capital has been severely heightened. Spot-checks are being conducted, roads and highways have been barricaded.

Maharashtra Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Mumbai Security Heightened

As mentioned earlier, security forces have intensified vigil in Mumbai, a day before the metropolitan city is set to go into polls in the fifth phase of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections on Monday (May 20). The city remains under tight security cover as large-scale spot checks are being carried out by stationary and mobile teams. Highways and roads have been barricaded as vehicles are being thoroughly inspected during the election period.

Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Voting In THESE Constituencies

All six parliamentary seats in Mumbai will go to the polls in the fifth phase of voting on Monday, namely, Mumbai North, Mumbai North-West, Mumbai North-East, Mumbai North-Central, Mumbai South-Central and Mumbai South. Kalyan, and Thane. Apart from these constituencies, voting will also be held in Thane, Kalyan, Palghar, Dhule, Mashik, Bhiwandi Dindori.

Lok Sabha Polls: Dry Day In Mumbai, Banks Closed

On and around the day of voting, there are several other restrictions imposed and one of them is ‘Dry Dry’ which is a ban on alcohol, as ordered by the Election Commission of India (ECI). Dry Day will be observed between May 18-20 in Mumbai, Palghar, Kalyan and Thane for the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 Phase 5. Bars and wine shops in Mumbai will close from 5 PM on May 18 to 5 PM on May 20. Banks will also remain closed on May 20, because of voting.

During the fifth phase, polling will take place in 49 constituencies of the following states and union territories – Maharashtra, Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha and Ladakh. The counting of votes and/or declaration of results will take place on June 4, 2024.
