Laxman will not apply for the job of the head coach.
Mumbai: Once the Board of Control of Cricket in India invited application for the position of the head coach after the T20 World Cup, one reckoned former cricketer VVS Laxman would be a frontrunner to succeed Rahul Dravid. But that does not seem to be the case, as a report in Sportstar claims that Laxman will not apply for the job of the head coach. With the deadline to submit an application is on May 27, 2024, it is now going to be interesting to see who are the ones who actually go ahead and apply. Rahul Dravid, whose contract ends after the T20 WC, is also unlikely to reapply for the job seeking an extension.
Dravid will not be seeking an extension as he wants to spend time with the family. The Sportstar report also claims that senior cricketers urged Dravid to go for an extension, but to no avail. At the moment, Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming and Lucknow Super Giants’ Justin Langer’s names have emerged as frontrunners.

Under the guidance of Dravid and the leadership of Rohit Sharma, India got a decent amount of success but were not able to cross the finishing line. Since Dravid joined as the head coach, India played the semifinal of 2022 T20 World Cup and finals of World Test Championship and ODI World Cup, both in 2023.
The upcoming T20 World Cup would be Dravid’s final assignment as head coach of the Indian team. He would certainly like to sign off on a high.
