25 years after the release of his hit film Sarfarosh, Aamir Khan has now confirmed that he will surely work on its sequel. On Friday, Khan was present at the 25th anniversary special premiere of Sarfarosh when he shared the big update and urged the film’s director, John Matthew Matthan, to work on it.

“I can commit about one thing, that we will definitely give it a really serious shot now of coming up with the right script and the right kind of film for it. So John you will have to get to work here,” Aamir said and then added, “Sarfarosh 2 banni chaiye (Sarfarosh 2 should be made) even I feel that.”

Directed by John Matthew Matthan, Sarfarosh was released on April 30, 1999. Apart from Aamir, it also starred Sonali Bendre, Naseeruddin Shah, Makarad Deshpandey, Rajesh Joshi, Smita Jaykar, Manoj Joshi, Upasna Singh, Surekha Sikri, Akhilendra Mishra and Akash Khurana in key roles.

Sarfarosh revolved around the story of ACP Ajay Rathod (portrayed by Aamir Khan) as he delved into a string of terrorist incidents in India. Rathod’s investigation ultimately led him to uncover the identity of the mastermind behind the attacks, a Pakistani weapon smuggler. The film also presented the themes of cross-border terrorism and illegal arms trade.

Recently, director John Matthew made a shocking revelation when he shared that his friends who were funding the film didn’t have enough faith in him and wanted to cast Shah Rukh Khan instead. “At that time, all of them suggested I take Shah Rukh. I said, ‘Listen, I don’t think Shah Rukh suits my role. I don’t have him in my mind,’ but they said that we would be able to save more money as the three of us could get a deal, but I didn’t want to,” he said as quoted by Indian Express.

However, talking about why he had faith in Aamir’s potential, the filmmaker added, “I started studying Aamir, what he had done and he had done only love stories. I felt that was good because he was unassuming. For example, if you see Spiderman, when you see that guy first, you know that he is not going to be able to do anything, but he becomes Spiderman and you start believing he can do it. So I needed a hero who transforms, then you are with him, rooting for him because you feel that this guy is too vulnerable. In a realistic movie like Sarfarosh, I needed the audience to feel for the guy. With all three considerations, I was sure I wanted Aamir.”
