Chandan Prabhakar opened up about The Great Indian Kapil Show ending within a few episodes.
During the recent chatter about Season 1 of The Great Indian Kapil Show coming to an abrupt end on Netflix, comedian Chandan Prabhakar, a key figure from The Kapil Sharma Show, shared his thoughts. While reports mention Netflix ending the season early due to lackluster ratings, official confirmation is still awaited. Only six episodes have aired, and uncertainty looms over a possible second season, sparking speculation about the show’s future.

In an interview with HT, Chandan Prabhakar shared,”Ab television zone se bahar nikal kar OTT ke liye kuch kar rahe hain, toh ek hesitation bhi rehti hai team main. Whenever we experiment with a show, there’s no guarantee it will work. There’s no formula to making it a success, woh cheezein apne aap ho jaati hain. However, I feel eventually it will start working, but yes, it will take time for sure.”
He added, “Jo bhi logon ki observations hain about the jokes, team ko zaroor mind main rakhna chahiye as to what people are thinking and saying, kyunki logon ke liye hi show bana rahe hain. And if they don’t get the entertainment they are seeking, then what’s the point?”
Prabhakar mentions that the previous format of the show was specifically designed for television and he doubts that it would work as effectively on OTT platforms. He explains, “The old format was tailored for Sony television, where I played a significant role. I believe the channel might not permit the exact same format to be used on Netflix. Additionally, the team was keen on introducing something new and fresh. Some minor changes have been made, though they might not be very obvious.”
He expresses optimism about the show’s future, believing that the team will navigate through the current challenges successfully. Recalling his earlier experiences with the team, he notes, “Initially, things felt normal and average, but they gradually became funnier with each episode. It all falls into place eventually. Therefore, I am confident that they will also resolve this current issue in due course.”
Prabhakar clarifies that he does not intend to return to The Great Kapil Sharma Show anytime soon. He reveals, “I have committed to a promising project which will be announced shortly. This is why I took a break from Kapil’s show. I wanted to break away from that familiar zone because being associated with one thing can limit one’s scope and energy. I am pursuing what I have always aspired to do in life.”
Since its Netflix debut, The Great Indian Kapil Show has encountered challenges in retaining viewer interest. Episodes featuring Aamir Khan and Sunny Deol with Bobby Deol received positive feedback, but the show struggled to maintain momentum otherwise. Despite attempts to pinpoint successful aspects, the season ended swiftly, leaving fans curious about the show’s future.
As Season 1 concludes, uncertainties remain about the show’s reception and possibility of renewal. Drawing insights from industry veterans like Chandan Prabhakar, Kapil Sharma and his team may reconsider their comedic approach to engage audiences in future projects. Whether The Great Indian Kapil Show will make a comeback for another season is unclear, but Prabhakar’s shared perspectives highlight the importance of delivering engaging entertainment to viewers.
Meanwhile, Comedian Sunil Pal took to his Instagram handle recently to express happiness as Kapil Sharma has wrapped up his The Great Indian Kapil Show. In the video that Pal shared, he argued that Kapil is not an “OTT artist” and added that most of his audience watches television instead.
“Achha hai aapka show band ho raha hai. You are not an OTT artist. Aap TV ke, ghar ghar ke artist ho,” Sunil Pal said.
Kapil Sharma wrapped up the last episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show last week. However, later, in an exclusive conversation with News18 Showsha, Kiku Sharda revealed that the wrap-up is only “temporary”. He confirmed that the team will be back with the second season of TGIKS after a short break.
“We have done 13 episodes and the second season will come out soon. We have just wrapped up the first season. It was always meant to be like this. We have already planned the next season and it will come out soon. There won’t be a very huge gap,” he told us.
Kiku further admitted that the show used to run for a longer time on television but added that they switched to digital to try a different format. “On television, it used to be longer but it is about different formats. This is also interesting. There will be a short gap now and the second season will be back soon. It sounds like a wrap because we make it look like it. But it is temporary. We will be functioning soon again,” he added.
