As the country is currently facing the brunt of a hot and sultry weather, there seems to be no respite for the people in the coming days. The MeT Department on Sunday said that severe heatwave conditions are likely to prevail over West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar and some parts of Jharkhand till May 1.
The heatwave warning has also been issued for Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana till April 30.

IMD ISSUES LIST OF PREVENTIVE MEASURES
Meanwhile, the weather office has also released a list of suggestions that should be followed amidst the scorching heat. The suggested actions given by the IMD are:
- Drink enough water to keep oneself hydrated.
- Avoid working outdoors during 12 pm to 4 pm.
- Wear light and cotton clothes.
- Cover head using hat, umbrella or a piece of cloth.

BENGAL, ODISHA & NORTHEAST TO CONTINUE FACING THE ‘HEAT’
- Heatwave prevailed in south Bengal and many parts of the northern districts of West Bengal on Sunday as the Met department forecast it will continue, particularly in southern districts, till May 2.
- On Sunday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 44.3 degrees Celsius in Paschim Medinipur district, 43.5 degrees Celsius in Bankura and 41.3 degrees Celsius in Kolkata.
- The state government already announced the preponing of the summer vacation in state-run and state-aided schools.
- Odisha continued to reel under severe heatwave conditions with industrial town Angul recording the state’s maximum temperature of 44.3 degrees Celsius on Sunday.
- As many as 27 places in the state recorded a maximum temperature of above 40 degrees Celsius, of which 12 places witnessed a temperature of 43 degrees Celsius or above, a bulletin issued by IMD’s Bhubaneswar centre said.
- The Tripura government has decided to extend the holiday in all schools across the state for three more days till May 1 due to the ongoing heatwave.
