Jaipur Leads AI Job Growth In India’s Tier 2 Cities, Report Reveals Top Roles

With the growing popularity of Artificial Intelligence’s potential, Tier 2 Indian cities like Jaipur, Gwalior, Haridwar, Jodhpur, Agra, and others are witnessing a surge in AI jobs, according to a report by GetWork, an HRtech platform.

Having analysed its database, the platform has arrived at these insights, wherein a total of 157 AI jobs were posted on GetWork between 1 December 2023 and 16 April 2024, out of which, January 2024 accounted for 32% of the total jobs posted in the given time frame.

In addition, the analysis of job postings by GetWork revealed that about 13% of the AI jobs posted in the last five months were based out of Tier 2 and 3 cities in India.

Marked by the growing prominence of AI, companies across the country are actively seeking to expand their workforce, with candidates who specialise in AI and its associated processes. Backed by the rising talent pool in Tier 2 and 3 cities and the economical workforce, leading companies have actively made a switch to these remote cities, which has contributed to the sudden surge in job postings for AI roles.

Jaipur leads AI job openings in Tier 2, 3 cities

In the aftermath of DEI initiatives, and the proliferation of AI, the corporate sector has showcased its readiness to create a more inclusive space by opening up job roles in leading industries, like AI, in their offices in Tier 2 and 3 cities. Against this backdrop, GetWork’s report reveals that Jaipur had the most number of openings, followed by Indore and South Goa.

Other Tier 2,3 cities with AI jobs included Agra, Dhar, Gwalior, Haridwar, Jabalpur, Jaipur, Jhunjhunu, Jodhpur, Trivandrum, Udaipur, Bhopal, and Bikaner. Overall, it becomes vividly clear that remote cities in the Northern part of the country experienced more AI job openings in comparison to the smaller cities of the South.

Rahul Veerwal, founder & CEO at GetWork, said, “Amidst the changed industry scenario and job roles, the steady rise in job openings for AI roles in Tier 2 and 3 cities is emblematic of the massive talent available in smaller cities, and is also a testament to their eagerness to learn the most in-demand skills. At the same time, this jump can also be attributed to the readiness of corporations to create equal opportunities for talented individuals across the country, irrespective of geographical peripheries. ”

Tier 1 Cities Continue to Maintain a Solid Footprint

While Tier 2 and 3 cities saw a steady surge in AI job openings, Tier 1 cities like Bangalore, Delhi NCR, Hyderabad, and others were able to maintain a good 86% demand in AI job roles, as per GetWork’s report. In fact, according to GetWork’s job portal, the Indian Silicon Valley contributed to 34% of the AI job openings in the last five months, which was followed by Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Kolkata.

The report suggested that AI roles such as AI/ML Engineer, Robotics Engineer, Robotics Trainer, and Data Scientist were some of the roles with the most openings in the selected period.

Further, some of the most active companies in the field of AI include Microsoft, Google, Uniphore, Boston Consulting Group (BCG), Apple, and others.

India’s rapidly evolving Gen AI market is poised to bring forth a new wave of job roles, especially in the remote cities of the country.

The correlation between Gen AI and the changed hiring scenario is likely to bridge the gap between the opportunities available in Tier 1 and remote cities, opening doors to the most sought-after job roles for talented individuals nationwide. With an inclusive workspace in the making, it is safe to say that AI is the catalyst driving transformation in all industry sectors.
