While the feature is still in development and gradually rolling out to users, those fortunate enough to receive the update can enjoy a more tailored and visually appealing messaging experience.
Custom Bubbles Feature: How to Personalize Your Chat Experience
For Users with Custom Bubbles:
Accessing Customization Options
Step 1: Open an RCS chat conversation with the blue chat icon.
Step 2: Tap the three-dot overflow menu located in the top right corner of the chat window.
Step 3: Navigate to “Change Colours”

Step 4: Within the menu, look for the option labeled “Change Colours”.
If you see this option, you have access to custom bubbles.
Customize Your Chat
Step 1: Tap “Change Colours” to enter a new screen displaying various colour options for chat background and message bubbles.
Step 2: Choose your desired colour scheme and preview it at the top of the screen before applying it to the conversation.
Tips for Customization
You can select from a predefined set of colours, including a dynamic option that matches your Material You theme on Android. Note that the custom bubble colours apply only to the visual appearance within your Messages app. Recipients won’t see the same colour scheme unless they also have custom bubbles enabled on their device.

Check for updates for the Google Messages app on the Play Store (Android) or App Store (iOS, if available). In the Google Messages app, tap the three-dot overflow menu, then go to “Settings” > “Chat features” and ensure it’s turned on.
