“Heavy rainfall spell accompanied with isolated thunderstorms/lightning very likely over Northeast India during 28th April-01st May,” the IMD added.
In its latest weather update, the India Meteorological Department has reiterated its warnings about the heatwave which will be holding several states in its grips.

The update published on April 27 said, “Heat wave to severe heat wave conditions likely to continue over East and south Peninsular India during next 5 days.” Besides this, the IMD also said that the Western Himalayan Region will continue to see rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms/lightning and gusty winds during the period between April 28-30, while the same could affect plains of Northwest India on April 28 and 29.

Heatwave in Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal
The heatwave conditions have been prevailing over Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal since April 15 and April 17, respectively. Yesterday, the temperature touched 44.6 degrees Celsius in Bhubaneswar, the highest during this summer. The IMD has urged people not to come out of their houses between 11 am to 3 pm as hot and intense humid condition prevails in most parts of the state.
Similarly for West Bengal, the IMD’s five-day forecast on Saturday warned that the ongoing heatwave conditions in south Bengal are expected to intensify, potentially leading to a further increase in maximum daytime temperatures across most districts in the region.

Rainfall in several states
The regions of Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh are expected to witness fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall/snowfall during the period between April 28-30. Uttarakhand could also experience isolated rainfall during the same period.
“Isolated Hailstorm is very likely over Punjab on 27th & 28th and over Haryana on 27th April,” the IMD added.
Between April 28 – May1, fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall/snowfall accompanied with isolated thunderstorm & lightning & gusty winds are very likely over Arunachal Pradesh and scattered to fairly widespread rainfall over Assam & Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura.
“Isolated heavy rainfall very likely over Arunachal Pradesh and Assam & Meghalaya during April 28 to May 1 with isolated very heavy rainfall over Arunachal Pradesh on April 30 and May 1,” the update said.
