The weather department has predicted a gradual rise in the maximum temperature by two to four degrees Celsius over the next three days
Severe heatwave conditions are likely to continue over Eastern India including West Bengal and Odisha and south Indian states like Karnataka and Telangana over the upcoming five days, the weather department said on Tuesday.
The India Meteorological Department predicted that the heatwave conditions prevailing in West Bengal will continue till at least Sunday and a further rise will be noted in the mercury, thereby offering no respite to the people.
Meanwhile, states in Northern India like Punjab, Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and states in western India including Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh are likely to receive rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms between April 24 and 27.

On the other hand, Northeast India, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya is likely to witness heavy rainfall from April 24 to 28.
Amid the rainy weather, the Lower Dibang Valley district of Arunachal has issued certain pre monsoon advisories. The authorities have advised to avoid travelling during night time and to also stay away from disaster prone areas during this time. A list of emergency contact numbers have also been provided for assistance.

HEATWAVE STRIKES BENGAL & EASTERN STATES
- The severe weather conditions in the southern and western districts of West Bengal, caused by dry westerly winds and strong solar insolation, have caused the state government to reschedule summer holidays in schools run or aided by it, while many private educational institutions have either switched to online classes or changed their timings.
- The Election Commission (EC) on Wednesday extended the poll timings by two hours in some assembly segments in four parliamentary constituencies of Bihar for enhanced voter participation amid the heatwave. According to a notification, the poll timing in Banka, Madhepura, Khagaria and Munger Lok Sabha constituencies was from 7 am to 4 pm.
- With Tripura reeling under heatwave conditions, the government ordered that all schools in the state will remain closed from April 24 to 27, an official said on Wednesday.
