Renowned cinematographer Senthil Kumar recently shared an intriguing behind-the-scenes story from the sets of RRR in an interview.
SS Rajamouli, Jr. NTR, and Ram Charan‘s action scenes in RRR have to rank among their most memorable. The heroic independence warriors Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem portrayed by Ram Charan and Jr. NTR were the heart of the historical drama set in the 1920s. The movie had its debut in India before moving on to Japan and the US on March 25th, 2022. Alia Bhatt, Olivia Morris, Ray Stevenson, Ajay Devgn, Shriya Saran, and Alison Doody all played their parts to perfection. A few memorable moments from the movie were decoded by cinematographer KK Senthil during an interview with a leading portal.
What Went Behind Jr NTR’s Spine Chilling Scene With Tigers Alongside?
During a sequence, Jr. NTR runs alongside a tiger before confronting it. Following that, wolves and foxes are chasing him. Senthil says that Jr. NTR sprinted so quickly that they were taken aback. It turns out that while he was in his teens, the actor played badminton at the state and national levels. Senthil revealed it was difficult to match his level of fitness as well. In yet another legendary scene, Jr. NTR attacks British people by leaping out of a vehicle carrying a variety of wild creatures that he has captured. For the first time, he also plays off Ram Charan’s persona.
During an interview with Film Companion, KK Senthil said, “Due to his (Jr NTR) legacy, the interval is sometimes better than the climax in his films. We shot this sequence for numerous nights. There were thousands of people in this scene who had to pretend animals were attacking them. Our VFX supervisor suggested we use motorised cars with animal faces on them, it helped.”

How Did Ram Charan Beat His Own Performance in Magadheera?
Another famous scene featured Ram’s character beating up a bunch of Indians who were demonstrating against the British. With his lathi, he enters a sea of people on his own, beats and gets beaten severely, but he doesn’t give up until he subdues them. Senthil discloses that Ram was nervous about performing this scene because he was uncertain about the audience’s reaction to seeing an Indian beat up other Indians.
He revealed, “In Magadheera there’s a sequence where he fights 100 people; now he needed to do something bigger. Based on that idea, we made it 2000 people. Charan was very apprehensive, being an Indian, to beat up fellow Indians, but Rajamouli convinced him about the character arch. We started off with rehearsals for 3 months on how to do it. We had circles of actors with fighters, junior fighters, actors who can fight, and more. The biggest challenge was to make the audience feel they’re part of the chaos. Charan has a meditative expression in this scene; we worked hard to capture that expression properly.”
