UK Family Visa New Rules 2024: United Kingdom Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has taken a bold step to check immigration in the country. To tackle the rising number of immigrants, the Sunak-led government has announced changes in the Family Visa rules. The new rules will be effective from Thursday, April 11.

As part of the changes, the United Kingdom has announced an increase in the minimum income requirement for sponsoring family members to enter the country.

“We have reached a tipping point with mass migration. There is no simple solution or easy decision which cuts numbers to levels acceptable to the British people,” said the country’s interior minister James Cleverly. “We’ve acted to cut unsustainable numbers, to protect British workers and their wages, to ensure those bringing family to the UK do not burden taxpayers.”

Now, sponsoring a family member’s visa in the country is set to get costlier by as much as around Rs 11 lakh. To get a UK Family Visa now, the minimum income will need to be £29,000 or around Rs 30 lakh. The threshold has been increased from £18,600 or around Rs 19 lakh earlier. It could further be increased to £38,700 early next year, Times of India reported.

UK Family Visa income requirement can be met through various means, including savings and income from employment. The latest measure is a part of a bigger set of policies announced in December 2023, which included a significant increase in the minimum salary for skilled work visas, tightened regulations for students, and a substantial rise in the health surcharge for foreigners using the National Health Service (NHS).

This change is part of UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s broader plan to address the issue of immigration, which has reached record levels in recent years and is expected to be a crucial topic in the upcoming general election in 2024.
