When an employee joins a new company, which falls under the purview of Employee Provident fund rules and regulation, the employer has to generate a UAN for them. As soon as the UAN number is generated it needs to be activated by visiting the official website.

What Is UAN Related To Employee Provident Fund?
A UAN, is the 12-digit Universal Account Number, allotted to all eligible employees by the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO). This unique number includes the details of multiple member IDs allotted to the member by different organizations where he has already worked. The UAN number will remain unchanged even if you change your job.
However, After the UAB is generated, it remains inactive until the employee activates it by visiting the official website. Once an UAN is activated, employees can check EPF contributions, check balance, and avail other EPFO services online.

How to activate UAN through the UAN Portal?
1: Go to the EPFO Member Portal – unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in 2: You will see the option ‘Activate UAN’ under the ‘Important Links’ tab on the dashboard. 3: Enter your UAN/member ID along with your name, DOB, mobile number, Aadhaar number, captcha code. 4: Click on the ‘Get Authorization PIN’. 5: You will recieve an authorization PIN to the mobile number registered with EPFO. 6: Enter this PIN in the box and click on “Validate OTP and Activate UAN”. 7: It will activate your UAN and you will receive a password to your mobile number. 8: Using this login id and password, you can login to your EPF account.
Change UAN Password
As the password sent to you is generated by the system, users are advised to change it immediately. Check below steps to change the UAN password after activation:
1: Visit the EPFO Member Portal – unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in 2: Enter the UAN number and password sent to you by the system. 3: Enter the captcha code and click on ‘Sign in’ option.

4: Enter OTP send to the registered mobile no and the captcha code and then click on the Submit option. 5: It will prompt you the screen where you need to enter the old password and create the new password which you want to change with. Keep a strong password for your financial safety. 6: Click on Submit. Your password has been changed successfully.
