Newer SUV models are lined up to be launched to cater to the increasing demand. Here’s a look at the upcoming SUV models to be launched in India.
Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor
Another collaborative effort between Maruti Suzuki and Toyota is in the works, resulting in the development of the Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor, based on the Maruti Suzuki Fronx. Following a similar pattern seen with the Baleno-Glanza partnership, the Taisor will undergo minor cosmetic alterations. The Taisor is expected to inherit the 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and the 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine options from the Fronx. Like its Maruti counterpart, the Toyota variant may also offer a CNG variant paired with the 1.2-litre petrol engine. The Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor is scheduled to be launched in the Indian market on April 3.
Mahindra XUV300 Facelift
Mahindra is gearing up to launch the XUV300 facelift for the Indian market. The upcoming version of the sub-4-metre SUV is anticipated to feature significant styling enhancements both at the front and rear. While the existing 1.2-litre turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines will be retained, there are speculations about the turbo-petrol variant receiving a new torque converter automatic gearbox.

Tata Curvv EV
The Tata Curvv was recently showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo in a production ready guise. Tata is gearing up to launch the electric version of the Curvv SUV in the second quarter of FY2025, between July and September 2024. It is built on the same platform as the Nexon, the electric variant is anticipated to offer a range of 450-500 km, although specific technical specifications are currently limited. Upon its launch, the Tata Curvv EV will enter a segment without direct competitors but will face competition from models such as the Mahindra XUV400, MG ZS EV, and even its own sibling, the Nexon EV.
Force Gurkha 5-Door
Force Motors has unveiled the first teaser of the Gurkha 5-door, indicating its imminent launch in the country. A prototype of the Gurkha 5-door showcased the inclusion of a new shift-on-the-fly 4WD knob conveniently placed next to the driver’s seat on the centre console. Despite the anticipated updates, the Gurkha 5-door is likely to retain the Mercedes-sourced 2.6-litre diesel engine from its 3-door counterpart.
Mahindra Thar 5-Door
The Mahindra Thar 5-door is set for release in the middle of this year. Anticipated upgrades from the Thar 3-door variant include features such as 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, an enlarged infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, and the inclusion of an electric sunroof.

The vehicle is expected to retain the same engine options as its predecessor, comprising the 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre petrol engines, with both 4WD and 2WD configurations available.
