Zomato assured that the company will look into the matter but there has not been any update on the issue so far.
Making a living by working as a food delivery agent is not an easy task. Recently, an X (Formerly Twitter) user came across a distressed Zomato worker who claimed that his Zomato account was blocked by the company just before his sister’s wedding. The X user Soham Bhattacharya shared the Zomato worker’s photo and wrote, “He was sobbing like anything near GTB Nagar, going to everyone and asking for some money. He told me he didn’t eat anything, saving it all for her wedding.” Bhattacharya added that the man told him that he had been working for Rapido since his Zomato account was blocked. He urged people to help the delivery man by sharing the QR code for his account.

This post, shared on March 28, soon went viral with over 2.9 million views in less than 24 hours. In the response, the food delivery company wrote, “We deeply value our delivery partners, and we understand the impact that actions like blocking an ID can have. Rest assured, we take such matters seriously. We assure you, we’ll look into this. Our delivery partners are as important to us as our customers.” There has not been any update on the issue so far, either from Zomato or by Soham Bhattacharya.
In the comments, many people criticised Zomato for putting their delivery partners in a difficult position. An X user wrote, “Please unblock his zomato account, the working class is the backbone of our society & economy. They earn money for their survival first, that’s their everyday struggle. They don’t have enough money at their disposal to lead a carefree life. How can somebody live without money?”

Another wrote, “You better value delivery partners. The way you treat them only shows how much you value your customers. This is not the first incident that brought the helplessness of a delivery partner to light.”
An X user demanded better policies from Zomato and wrote, “It’s so sad to see that this is probably happening on a daily basis, riders getting blocked and they have no reason why or how to reverse this action. zomato should be doing a lot better considering they’ve become a mammoth in employment at this rate, riders need more support.”

The non-compliance with the company’s opaque policies or failure to meet difficult targets often results in Zomato blocking a rider’s account which means they can no longer work for the company.
