The IMD has said that two fresh Western Disturbances are projected to impact the Western Himalayan Region, with the first expected from the night of March 23 and the second from the night of March 26.
As a cyclonic circulation lies over northeast Assam and its neighboring areas in the lower to middle tropospheric levels, the India Meteorological Department in its latest update predicted light to heavy rainfall for several states in the coming days.
Rainfall in Northeast
The cyclonic circulation is expected to bring about several weather phenomena across different regions. Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, along with Sikkim, are likely to experience fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied by isolated thunderstorms and lightning till March 26.. Additionally, isolated heavy rainfall and snowfall are anticipated over Arunachal Pradesh on March 23, March 25, and 26, over Sikkim on March 23, and isolated heavy rainfall over Assam and Meghalaya on March 23, 25, and 26.
Besides this, Bihar may experience isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall with isolated thunderstorms and lightning on March 23 and 24.

The IMD has said that two fresh Western Disturbances are projected to impact the Western Himalayan Region, with the first expected from the night of March 23 and the second from the night of March 26.
As a result of this, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-GilgitBaltistan-Muzaffarabad, and surrounding areas are likely to witness isolated to scattered light rainfall and snowfall, along with isolated thunderstorms and lightning, today and tomorrow.
Furthermore, isolated to scattered light rainfall and snowfall are anticipated over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-GilgitBaltistan-Muzaffarabad and Himachal Pradesh on March 26 and 27, intensifying on the 28th.
Uttarakhand is also expected to experience isolated light rainfall from today to March 28.
In addition, Punjab, Haryana, and north Rajasthan may encounter isolated light rainfall, along with isolated thunderstorms and lightning, on various dates in March 2024.

Heat wave warning
The IMD said that during the period from March 22 to March 26, heat wave conditions are expected to occur in isolated areas across Saurashtra and Kutch.
Maximum temperature forecast
As per the weather update, maximum temperatures in many parts of Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand are currently 8-10°C below normal, with East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, north Odisha, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura experiencing temperatures 4-8°C lower than usual.
Conversely, areas like Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, West Rajasthan, Saurashtra, Kutch, Konkan, and Goa are witnessing temperatures 2-4°C above normal, while other regions remain near normal.
Over the next few days, East India will see a gradual rise in temperatures by 4-6°C, Central India by 2-4°C, and Northwest India by 2-4°C over the next 4-5 days.
No significant temperature changes are expected elsewhere in the country.
