How to vote without a voter ID card in 2024 Elections

To vote without a voter ID card, individuals can follow the guidelines provided by the Election Commission of India (ECI). Even without a voter ID card, they can still participate in the electoral process by ensuring their name is listed in the ECI voter list.

To add their name to the voter list, they must fill out and submit Form 6 to the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) of their assembly constituency. Once their name is included in the electoral roll, they become eligible to vote, irrespective of whether they possess a physical voter ID card or not.

1. Eligibility criteria:

Before enrolling, check to meet the eligibility criteria for voter registration.

To be eligible to vote in India, an individual must meet the following criteria:

  • Citizenship: The person must be a citizen of India.
  • Age Requirement: The individual must be 18 years of age or older as of January 1st of the year when the electoral roll is revised.
  • Disqualification: The person must not be disqualified under any law from voting.

2. Documents required:

To obtain a voter ID, also known as the Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC), you will need the following documents:

  • Passport-size color photograph.
  • Age proof, which can be provided through a birth certificate.
  • Address proof, which can be provided through documents such as an Aadhaar card, bank passbook, APL/BPL cards, or letters issued by reputed organizations.

3. Registration Process:

General voters are required to fill out the online Form 6, whereas overseas voters are required to fill out Form 6A on the official website https://voters.eci.gov.in. These forms serve as applications for the inclusion of your name in the electoral roll. It’s essential to provide accurate personal details such as name, date of birth, and address, and upload supporting documents as required.

4. Enrollment status:

To check your enrollment status, registered voters should visit the Electoral Search website. By doing so, you can verify if you are already registered to vote. If your name appears on the list, it indicates that you are eligible to vote. However, if your name is not listed, you will need to register to vote.
