Demonstrating a commitment to this cause, Akasa Air has unveiled a remarkable achievement by forgoing ceremonial water cannon salutes during fleet and new destination inaugurations, the airline has conserved an impressive 3.36 lakh litres of water. Shared on its social media platforms, Akasa Air’s video clip begins with a solitary figure, accompanied by the text: “We save 3,36,000 Litres of water by avoiding water cannon salutes. Every drop counts for a sustainable future. Akasa Air celebrates World Water Day!”
The accompanying caption reads: “336,000 litres of water! Yes, that’s how much we’ve conserved to date by opting out of ceremonial water cannon salutes during fleet and new destination inaugurations. This World Water Day, we renew our dedication to conserving this invaluable resource.”

A commenter described it as “A Sensible Step,” while another noted, “After all sustainability is the core value of Akasa.” This comes amid a significant water crisis in the country, with its main reservoirs hitting their lowest March levels in five years, as reported by Reuters, citing government data. Last week, the government-monitored 150 reservoirs, crucial for supplying drinking water, irrigation, and serving as the primary source of hydro-electricity, were filled to just 40 percent of their capacity, according to Reuters.

Surprisingly, only 24 out of 153 countries have established water-sharing agreements, as reported by the United Nations (UN). To prevent potential conflicts and ensure access to essential water resources across borders, prioritising water conservation becomes crucial. This initiative is in line with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6, which aims to achieve universal access to water and sanitation by 2030.
