Vicky Kaushal Recalls How He Got A Cameo Role In Shah Rukh Khan Starrer Dunki: ‘I Told Raju Sir…’

Vicky Kaushal surprised his fans after he announced his next ‘Bad Newz’ with Triptii Dimri and Ammy Virk on Monday. Fans are super excited and have been showering love on the casting. Well, the actor was last seen in Dunki. Though he did a cameo in the film and fans loved his performance. Recently, Vicky revealed how he got the role of Shah Rukh Khan starrer.

In a conversation with The Week Magazine, Vicky Kaushal said that he wanted to work with Rajkumar Hirani again after Sanju. “I told Raju sir (director Rajkumar Hirani) that even if he had wanted me to simply pass by unnoticed, I would happily do that as well… My father (action director) Sham Kaushal was working on Dunki and because Sukhi (Vicky’s character) had that fire sequence, my father asked Hirani who was playing the part. He wanted to know ‘Mujhe kisko jalaana hai? (Whom do I light on fire?)’. So Hirani said he wanted somebody like Vicky, but did not offer it to me because he thought it was a small role. When my dad came home, I asked him how the meeting went. He recounted the [interaction with Hirani] and I said, ‘Really?’ The very next day I called Raju sir and told him if it had to be somebody like me, then why not me? I landed up in his office that very day and said yes without even listening to the script. The first time I saw the full film was during the screening. I only knew my part.” Vicky was quoted saying.

Released on December 21, Dunki follows the emotional journey of a group of friends who want to move abroad. The plot follows the exciting journey of those who choose an unconventional route known as the Donkey Flight, showing the difficulties they face on their way. Besides SRK, it also stars Taapsee Pannu and Vicky Kaushal in key roles. The film earned over Rs 300 crore at the Indian box office.

Vicky also have Chhava in his kitty. It is directed by filmmaker Laxman Utekar, known for movies like Kriti Sanon starrer Mimi (2021), Luka Chuppi (2019) and more. The upcoming film is reported to be a period drama, where Kaushal will share the screen with Rashmika Mandanna.
