UAN Profile Information Update Alert: The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has issued a standard operating procedure (SOP) to streamline the process of correcting employees’ profiles and prevent fraud. This move comes in response to the increasing cases of impersonation and fraud due to identity changes in the universal account number (UAN).
The SOP lists the acceptable documents for making corrections and sets time frames for handling applications. It also introduces online tracking of applications to ensure transparency and accountability.
Under the new SOP, applicants can submit documents such as Aadhaar card, PAN card, class 10 or class 12 marksheet, and driving license to make changes in their UAN profiles.
Minor requests will be processed within seven days, while major requests will be processed within 15 days. Requests that have been escalated to a higher level will receive an additional three days for processing.
The EPFO emphasizes the importance of verifying the authenticity of its members and reducing the rejection of joint declarations for higher pension. The unregulated and non-standardized processes have allowed for manipulation of member identities, leading to impersonation and fraud. By implementing this SOP, the EPFO aims to establish a standardized and regulated process for correcting employee profiles.
The SOP also addresses the issue of joint declarations being reverted back to the employer. In such cases, the request time will start once the declaration is received back in the login of the concerned official.

To ensure the accuracy of changes made, the SOP requires the submission of at least two documents for minor changes and a minimum of three documents for major changes. This will serve as proof for the requested modifications.
The EPFO believes that the implementation of this SOP will not only streamline the process but also enhance the security and authenticity of member profiles.
