The Maharashtra cabinet has decided that the name of the mother will be mandatory on all govt documents like Birth certificates, school documents, property documents, Aadhar cards, and PAN cards.
Mumbai: Starting from May 1, 2024, the Maharashtra government has declared a mandatory rule, which is essentially a big leap towards gender equality. Going forward, every piece of official documentation must rightfully include the mother’s name. Spanning across multiple official documents, this rule impacts birth certificates, school records, property papers, as well as Aadhar and PAN cards.

Maha Cabinet Clears Construction of Housing Complexes For Workers
In a serious bid to reach out to the workers from the 58 closed Mumbai textile mills ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Maharashtra Cabinet gave the nod to construct housing complexes for them in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
The Cabinet’s approval was necessary to implement the government’s ambitious plan to provide homes to textile mill workers which has been lingering on for many years. As per the eligibility criteria assessed by the state labour department, nearly 80,000 houses will be required to be built for the textile workers in the MMR.
The construction of these 80,000 homes will be possible through building new housing complexes on government land, through joint ventures with private landowners under the Prime Minister’s Awas Yojana and other schemes and also through the option of construction of homes under the Prime Minister’s Awas Yojana or other such schemes on the approved layout of the private developers.

The Cabinet cleared these three options for the construction of housing complexes for the textile mill workers.
The Housing Department will complete necessary formalities such as selection of land, issuance of tenders to appoint developers and contractors, scrutiny of technical and financial bids and making necessary follow-ups with the concerned departments.
The Chief Secretary-led high-powered committee will finalise bids, negotiate with developers and contractors, release necessary approvals and fix the price of housing units. The construction of housing complexes for textile mill workers will get underway under the Prime Minister Awas Yojana.
Cabinet Clears Rs 850 Crore German Loan for MMRDA
The Maharashtra cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, on Monday, cleared an Rs 850 crore loan to be raised by Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) from Germany’s KfW development bank for providing urban infrastructure amenities with a rider that the government will not bear any burden towards repayment of the principal loan amount, interest, and delayed payment fees.
The proceeds will be used for the solid waste management projects and division of solid and liquid waste undertaken by the Ambarnath and Kulgaon-Badlapur Municipal Councils and the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation. The cabinet also approved a grant worth Rs 18.77 crore to be taken by the MMRDA from KfW for providing urban infrastructure amenities.
The total project cost of the MMR Urban Infrastructure Amenities Project is of the order of Rs 1,215 crore. Of this, the MMRDA will contribute Rs 365 crore from its corpus. The cabinet has authorised the Principal Secretary, Urban Development, to enter into a loan agreement with KfW.
