It also helps people bypass automated messages from telecom service providers and roaming charges. However, the call logs remain within the app and do not appear in Google’s dialer. And, this could change soon.
Citing an X (formerly Twitter) user, Android Police reported that WhatsApp calls may soon appear within Google Phone’s call log. According to the user (@Kishore9196), this iPhone-like feature was available in the beta builds of both versions. The reported versions were Phone app beta: ‘124.0.608164421’ (Pubic beta) and Whatsapp beta: ‘2.24.6.6’. The reported phone in use was the Google Pixel 6a.
In the screengrab shared by the user, a WhatsApp label below the call record is visible, which could help make the identification better across all devices.

Other calls are marked with the telecom operator’s name. There is an option to make an audio call, video call, message or check the history of the VoIP call. It is unclear whether the app will also support other communication platforms like Skype, Telegram and more.
For the unaware, the feature is similar to the iPhone, which makes it easy for users to make voice and video calls directly using the social media app. If a similar functionality appears on Android, this can help boost the connecting process via calls from other apps. On a related note, WhatsApp is also developing a favourites bar in the calls tab in the beta version.
Meanwhile, Google’s Phone app is the default option on many Android smartphones. Further, the company is reportedly working on an audio reactions feature during calls.
