Centre Introduces ‘Chakshu’ Portal To Fight Fraud Via Spam Calls And Messages

Indian government has introduced an all-new facility called Chakshu on the Sanchar Saathi portal which will let the citizens report the suspected fraud calls. This comes after Union Minister of Communications and Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw introduced the initiative.

Along with this, he also introduced the “Digital Intelligence Platform (DIP)” to help stakeholders coordinate efforts to stop the abuse of telecom resources in financial fraud and cybercrime.

Speaking at the event, Vaishnaw stated that the government has been working tirelessly to combat cybercrimes at the national, organisational, and individual levels as part of the Secure India initiative.

According to him, the Department of Telecommunication has launched numerous campaigns to raise awareness so that people may utilise these resources to both protect themselves from cyber-fraud and file complaints.

He mentioned the “Sanchar Saathi” webpage and stated it has been helpful in combating these kinds of attacks. The Minister noted that the tools will significantly improve the capacity and ability to check any form of cyber security threat in addition to the two portals, DIP and Chakshu.

These two new portals, according to Telecom Secretary Neeraj Mittal, are yet another measure in addressing the threat that cyber security poses to each and every citizen’s digital assets. He mentioned that these instruments will assist in preventing fraud of any kind and improper use of the communications infrastructure.

The Department of Telecommunications developed the Digital Intelligence Platform (DIP), a safe and comprehensive platform for real-time information sharing, coordination, and intelligence sharing amongst various stakeholders, including telecom service providers (TSPs), law enforcement agencies (LEAs), banks and financial institutions (FIs), social media platforms, and authorities that issue identity documents.

Information about cases that have been identified as telecom resource misuse is also available on the platform. The stakeholders in their respective domains may find value in the shared knowledge.

Additionally, it serves as a backend repository for citizen-initiated queries on the Sanchar Saathi portal, awaiting responses from relevant parties.

According to a release, the stakeholders can access the DIP over secure networking, and pertinent information is delivered according to their individual roles. Citizens are unable to access the aforementioned platform.

According to the statement, Chakshu is the most recent addition to the citizen-focused services previously offered on the DoT’s Sanchar Saathi platform.

“Chakshu enables citizens to report suspected fraudulent communications received via phone, text or WhatsApp with the aim of defrauding, such as when bank account, payment wallet, SIM, gas or electricity connections expire or are updated sextortion, or when someone impersonates a government official or relative in order to send money, or when the Department of Telecommunications,” the release added.

It stated that if a citizen has already fallen victim to financial fraud or cybercrime, they should report it at the Government of India’s cybercrime helpline at 1930 or on their website, https://www.cybercrime.gov.in.
