Vi eSIM: Popular telecom service provider Vodafone Idea has announced its eSIM (Embedded Subscriber Identity Module) services for prepaid subscribers in Mumbai, Maharashtra and Goa. This comes amid the wide availability of eSIM offerings from Jio and Airtel. It can help Vi customers enhance flexibility and convenience in using a SIM card on a supported smartphone or smartwatch. This can be done without removing the primary SIM on a supported device.

According to Vi, eSIM serves as a medium for faster connectivity, and seamless adoption of new technologies. Both postpaid and prepaid users can now enjoy services via the eSIM feature on their devices. the company also shared the steps for users to switch to a Vi eSIM. Here is how you can switch to an eSIM.

Vi eSIM Activation: Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Existing users can send an SMS to 199 with the text: “eSIM [your registered email id]” (make sure your correct email ID is updated in Vi records)
Step 2: Once you receive a confirmation SMS, reply by typing – “ESIMY” within 15 minutes of receiving the text to proceed
Step 3: This will be followed by a call to request consent (make sure to give your consent on the call)
Step 4: Check your email inbox for the QR code for activation of eSIM
Step 5: From the Settings app, head to the “Mobile Data” and “Add data” plan and scan the code
Step 6: You can consider renaming the secondary SIM and selecting the default line of devices

The eSIM will be active within 30 minutes. New customers can visit the Vi store along with ID proof to get a new connection. This eSIM is available for eSIM-compliant iPhones including iPhone XR and above.
As for Samsung, the Galaxy Z Flip, Z Fold, Note 20 Ultra, Note 20 and Galaxy S21 (and later devices) are supported. Apart from these, eSIM-ready Motorola Razr, Moto Edge 40, Pixel 3 and later, Vivo X90 Pro, Nokia G60 and Nokia X30 are a part of the list of supported devices.
