Toyota is gearing up to introduce its much-anticipated midsize electric SUV to the Indian market, following the footsteps of its Maruti counterpart.

After teasing us with the Urban SUV concept last year, the Japanese automaker confirms that its electric marvel will roll out six months after Maruti’s scheduled launch in March 2025.
This means eager buyers can expect to see the production version hitting Indian showrooms around September to October 2025, as reported by Autocar.

Measuring at 4,300mm in length, 1,820mm in width, and 1,620mm in height, Toyota’s Urban SUV concept shares striking similarities with Maruti’s eVX. Not only that, but both models are anticipated to sport the same 2,700mm wheelbase, ensuring a familiar yet robust design.
Taking cues from its contemporary EV lineup, such as the bZ compact SUV concept, the Urban SUV flaunts edgy surfaces and distinct C-shaped LED daytime running lamps. With its rugged appeal and flared wheel arches, the SUV embodies a quintessential upright silhouette reminiscent of its Maruti counterpart. Plus, the rear end bears a striking resemblance to the eVX, exuding a sense of familiarity with its door and glass house design.

While Toyota has kept the interior details under wraps, we can expect a seamless integration of comfort and technology, mirroring the standards set by the eVX. With ample space and flexibility, thanks to its EV skateboard platform, the Urban SUV promises a plush interior loaded with creature comforts and advanced safety features.
Similar to Maruti’s strategy, Toyota’s electric offering will ride on the 27PL skateboard platform, manufactured locally at Suzuki’s Gujarat facility for both domestic and export markets.
Buyers can anticipate two battery pack options: a 60kWh unit boasting a range of approximately 550km, showcased with the eVX concept, and an entry-level variant equipped with a smaller 48kWh battery pack offering around 400km of range. Toyota also hints at offering both front-wheel-drive and dual-motor all-wheel-drive options for select markets.
Upon its debut, Toyota’s midsize electric SUV will face stiff competition from rivals like the Hyundai Creta EV, Tata Curvv EV, and even its sibling, the Maruti eVX.
