IMD predicts fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning over the Western Himalayan Region till March 3.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in its latest weather forecast on Friday (March 1) said that an intense spell of rainfall and snowfall is forecasted over the Western Himalayan Region until March 3, with peak intensity expected on March 2.
IMD predicts fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning over the Western Himalayan Region during this period.

Delhi-NCR receives light rain
Delhi and its surrounding National Capital Region (NCR) experienced light rain on Saturday morning, accompanied by a decrease in the minimum temperature to 15 degrees Celsius. The IMD forecasts further showers throughout the day.
“Delhi is likely to witness a generally cloudy sky with light to moderate rain/thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds (speed 40-50 kmph),” the weather department said.

IMD predicts intense snowfall, rainfall
Additionally, scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall, along with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds, is expected over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and north Madhya Pradesh from March 2-3.
Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall or snowfall is likely over Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Punjab on March 2, with hailstorm activity also anticipated at isolated places in these regions.

“Heavy to very heavy rain/snow at isolated places in Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Hail at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, West Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan,” IMD said.
Furthermore, isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall or snowfall is expected over Arunachal Pradesh for the next 7 days, with isolated heavy rainfall or snowfall predicted for Arunachal Pradesh on March 4 and for Sikkim on March 3.
Isolated light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from March 3-6.
India to see warmer summer this year
India is expected to face a warmer summer this year due to continuing El Nino conditions, as forecasted by IMD. Regions like Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, north interior Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Odisha are likely to witness more heatwave days than usual.
Additionally, March is predicted to see above-normal rainfall, surpassing 117 percent of the long-period average. IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra highlighted that most parts of the country can anticipate above-normal maximum and minimum temperatures from March to May. However, he assured that heatwave conditions are not anticipated over north and central India in March.
