Prime minister Narendra Modi, Mauritian counterpart jointly inaugurate new airstrip, jetty and other projects in island nation

NEW DELHI: PM Modi and Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth jointly inaugurated the new Airstrip and St James Jetty, along with six additional community development initiatives.

The projects are expected to enhance connectivity between Agalega and mainland Mauritius, while simultaneously fortifying maritime security in the region.

At the inauguration, PM Modi said, “It is my fifth meeting with PM Jugnauth during the last six months. This is evidence of a vibrant, strong and unique partnership between India and Mauritius. Mauritius is an important partner of our ‘neighbourhood first policy‘.”

In a statement released earlier, the Prime Minister’s Office highlighted the enduring and robust development partnership between India and Mauritius, emphasizing that the inauguration serves as a testament to the longstanding collaboration between the two nations.

“The projects will fulfill the demand for better connectivity between mainland Mauritius and Agalega, strengthen maritime security, and foster socio-economic development,” stated the Prime Minister’s Office.

This event follows the recent launch of Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and RuPay Card services in Mauritius on February 12 by both Prime Minister Modi and his Mauritius counterpart Jugnauth.
