The IGI Airport police apprehended a Punjab-based agent involved in a counterfeit visa and passport scam. The police were tipped off about the agent by an anonymous source at the IGI Police Station. The arrested individual is Gurjant Singh, aged 54, son of Mahinder Singh, residing in Salempur, Sangrur, Punjab.
Following an investigation of an incident involving a passenger named Rajinder Singh, authorities took action. Singh had arrived at IGI Airport from Jordan via Sharjah and attempted to go through immigration with a fake passport. This raised concerns forcing authorities in his detention by airport authorities.

The inquiry exposed Gurjant Singh’s involvement as a key player in the plot and a network that allowed for unauthorised travel. The Delhi Police team was essential in finding the culprit after previous attempts to apprehend him had failed.

The accused was detained in a case that was filed in January 2021 and involved several sections of the Passport Act and the Indian Penal Code that dealt with conspiracy, fraud and deception.

According to the police, the accused, along with other agents, exploited those who were looking to travel overseas by promising their passage in exchange for a sizable sum of money. After more investigation, it was found that passports were obtained for people who couldn’t travel abroad due to legal or financial constraints.
During the investigation, Gujrant Singh disclosed that he hails from Datta village in Monga district, Punjab. He admitted to following the instructions of Ashok and Sukhwinder, during their meeting in China.

A team was led by Inspector Mohit Yadav followed by Sub Inspector Yogendra, Head Constable Bunty Yadav and Lady Constable Suman.
Previously, the IGI Airport Police team cordoned off the railway station and apprehended the female suspect, Rajvinder. Rajvinder Kaur, a resident of Moga district in Punjab, has been identified as the accused in the case. She was declared a proclaimed offender after the case was registered on July 25, 2009.

The IGI Airport Police announced that Rajvinder’s husband, Sukhdev Singh and Ashok will also be arrested soon.
