New Delhi: PAN card or Permanent Account Number is a unique ten-digit alphanumeric number and is issued in the form of a laminated card, under the Indian Tax Department. It is one of the most important documents for the citizens of India. It is not only used for tax purposes but also as identity proof.
If you have any issues with the name registered under your PAN Card you make the changes easily. It is not difficult to make corrections in the name that is there in your PAN. An individual can use both online and offline methods for PAN Card correction. Here is a step-by-step guide you can follow to change/correct the name on your PAN Card.
Steps To Correct/Change Your Name In PAN Card: Online
Step 1: Open any web browser and navigate to https://www.onlineservices.nsdl.com/paam/endUserRegisterContact.html.
Step 2: On the new screen, select “Apply Online” and then, under Application Type, choose “Changes or correction in existing PAN Data/ Reprint of PAN Card (No changes in existing PAN data).”
Step 3: Under Category, select “Individual.” Proceed by filling in the required details:
- Last name/surname
- First name
- Date of Birth
- Email ID
- Citizenship status (whether you are a citizen of India)
- PAN Number

Step 4: After providing all the necessary details, agree to the information statement by selecting “By submitting data to us and/or using our NSDL e-Gov TIN website.”
Step 5: Enter the Captcha code as displayed, and then click on “Submit.”
Step 6: After completing the form, you’ll receive a message confirming your request with a Token Number sent to your provided email address. “We thank you for using the online PAN application service of NSDL e-Gov. Your request is successfully Registered with Token Number xxxxxxxxx and the same has been sent on your email ID provided in the PAN application.”
Step 7: Finally, click on “Continue with PAN Application Form” to proceed. You’ll then be redirected to the Online PAN application page.
Note: Follow the on-screen instructions to proceed. If you need to update the photo or signature on your PAN, click on ‘Photo Mismatch’ or ‘Signature Mismatch’ on the page.
Once all details are filled in and payment is completed, an acknowledgment slip will be generated. Print it and send it, along with physical proof of documents, to the NSDL e-gov office.

How To Correct/Change Your Name In PAN Card: Offline
Step 1: Download the Request for New PAN Card or/and Changes or Correction in PAN Data Form.
Step 2: Thoroughly complete all mandatory fields in the form.
Step 3: Attach supporting documents such as identity proof, address proof, and passport-size photographs.
Step 4: Submit the form to the nearest NSDL collection center.
Step 5: Pay the applicable charges for PAN card update or correction offline. Upon payment, you will receive a 15-digit acknowledgement number to track the status of your PAN Card application.
