New Delhi: The Universal Account Number (UAN) is a distinctive 12-digit identification number given to employees by EPFO India. It enables employees to manage their provident fund accounts conveniently online.

Importantly, an employee’s UAN remains constant throughout their lifetime and facilitates the consolidation of multiple Member Identification Numbers (Member IDs) under one UAN. Previously, when employees switched to a new organization, they were assigned a new PF account number.
UANs are allocated to all contributing members of EPFO and distributed via employers. Since its introduction in 2014, the UAN system has gained significant importance due to the transition of PF record-keeping to online platforms. Employers can generate UANs for their employees through the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation’s (EPFO) portal.
Steps To Activate UAN Online:
Step 1: Open your browser and navigate to the official website www.epfindia.gov.in.
Step 2: From the menu, choose “Our Services” and then select “For Employees” from the drop-down list.
Step 3: Click on “Member UAN/Online Services.”
Step 4: You will be directed to the UAN Member Portal.
Step 5: Locate and click on “Activate UAN” at the bottom-right corner of the page.
Step 6: Enter all required details including your UAN, name, date of birth, mobile number, and the captcha text.

Step 7: Click on “Get Authorization Pin.”
Step 8: Check your mobile phone for the one-time password (OTP) you’ve received.
Step 9: Review all the details displayed on the EPFO page, then tick the checkbox next to “I Agree.”
Step 10: Enter the OTP and click on “Validate OTP and Activate UAN.”
Note: After activating your UAN, you will receive the password on your registered mobile number. Six hours later, you can check your PF balance. You also have the option to change the password by logging into the UAN Member Portal.
Here Are The Steps To Know Your UAN:
Step 1: Go to the official website of the EPFO Member portal.
Step 2: Select the ‘Know your PAN’ option.
Step 3: Enter your registered mobile number and the captcha code, then click on ‘Request OTP’.
Step 4: Once you receive the OTP, enter it along with the captcha code for verification.
Step 5: Provide the following details: your name, date of birth, and either Aadhaar, PAN, or member ID.

Step 6: Now verify the captcha code again.
Step 7: Finally, click on ‘Show my UAN’.
