Speculations are rife that Congress veteran Kamal Nath might join the Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday. This would be a major blow to Congress ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The saffron party’s sources on Saturday told News18 that Kamal Nath is likely to join their party in the next 48 hours.
This came in the backdrop of Kamal Nath’s son, Congress leader Nakul Kamal Nath, hint at a possible political switch after dropping the party’s name from his social media bio.
On speculations of whether he will join the BJP, the Congress veteran said he “will inform if anything happens”.
Meanwhile, his colleagues from the grand-old party rejected the reports. Congress leader Sajjan Singh Verma, however, hinted that person’s decision might change because of “insult and self-respect”.
Meanwhile another leader, BK Hariprasad, said some leaders are looking for a “greener pasture”

PREVIOUS BLOWS TO CONGRESS
ASHOK CHAVAN
Just last week, former Maharashtra chief minister and senior Congress leader Ashok Chavan resigned from the grand-old party and joined the BJP. A day later, Chavan even filed his Rajya Sabha nomination.
Chavan’s resignation was another blow to the Congress before the upcoming general elections. The former Maharashtra CM was reportedly unhappy with the Congress’ decisions in the state.
BABA SIDDIQUE
Former Maharashtra Minister Baba Siddique, on February 8, resigned from the Congress party after 48 years of association and joined Ajit Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party two days later, February 10.
After joining NCP, Siddique said, “Now it is done. Ab kya rona, jab chidiya chug gayi khet. It was done with dhol, not quietly. When you are not being listened to, you should move to the side… I have a lot to say, but someone should answer. I am sad but happy too. I am sad because I am not thick-skinned.”
While he thanked everyone who has been a part of his journey, he also said that there’s a lot of that he would have liked to express but some things are better left unsaid.

MILIND DEORA
Earlier in January, Milind Deora exited the grand-old Congress party and joined Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena on the same day.
After resigning from Congress’ primary membership, Deora said he was going on a “path of development”. Joining the Shinde faction, Deora said he was loyal to the Congress during its most challenging decade but now it is different.
The former minister went on to say that he believes in the politics of ‘GAIN’ – Growth, Aspiration, Inclusivity and Nationalism.
