How To Merge 2 UANs: As per the existing rules, a salaried employee is required to have only one Universal Account Number for his Employees Provident Fund (EPF) account. However, when an employee changes his job, the new employer opens a new EPFO account. As every EPF account is linked with a UAN, chances are high that a new UAN will be allotted when the employee changes his company.

Member can also write to EPFO asking to block the previous UAN and transfer the existing EPF balance to the active UAN.

First Method
- Employees having two UANs should report the issue to a new employer or EPFO.
- An employee can write an email to [email protected] mentioning their current and new UAN.
- EPFO will conduct the verification to resolve the issue.
- Next, the old UAN will be deactivated and the employee’s current UAN will remain active.
- Now you need to submit a claim for the transfer of the EPF account linked with the deactivated UAN to a new active account.
- The process for the above is a bit complex and the resolution rate is low as well. EPFO has come up with an easy process where the member can conveniently link his two UANs and transfer his EPF without much hassle.

Second Method
- EPFO members must raise a request to transfer the EPF amount from the old UAN to the new one.
- Once an employee requests for EPF transfer, the system will automatically detect the duplicate UAN.
- Once identified, the old UAN will be deactivated and the employee’s previous membership ID will be linked to the new UAN.
- Employees will get the deactivation status of the old UAN through SMS as well.
- If the member employee has not activated his new UAN, the member will receive a request to activate the new UAN.
