Lenovo is again pushing the envelope when it comes to PC design with the world’s first transparent laptop, which is likely to be showcased at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024. The upcoming notebook from Lenovo looks just like a slab of glass attached to a glass keyboard, which could set a new trend in the world of personal computing devices.

Lenovo could make use of transparent display panels from either LG or Samsung, which were showcased earlier this year at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2024, and Windowsreport gives us an early glimpse at the upcoming innovation from Lenovo.
As per the leaked renders of Lenovo’s transparent laptop will belongs to the ThinkBook lineup, the device has a bezel-less design, which makes it look like a slab of glass. It isn’t fully transparent, but it is translucent, which allows the light to pass through. Not just that, the laptop also seems to have a digital keyboard, possibly with capacitive buttons, which could still offer the feeling of pressing physical keys, powered by a motor, similar to a trackpad on a modern MacBook.

While there is no information about the specifications of this machine, it is likely to run on Windows 11, and it is also expected to be based on Intel’s latest Ultra Core series of processors, which also makes it the first AI-ready PC with a dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU).
Right now, it is unclear if Lenovo will sell this machine or if it is just a concept, similar to the Moto Rizr, a phone with a rollable display, which was showcased at last year’s MWC.

While transparent display technology itself isn’t new, there were several challenges for brands to incorporate the same, especially in terms of cost. It looks like big display tech brands have finally made a breakthrough, and we could see transparent display panels on more form factors in the coming days. LG has confirmed that its signature OLED T transparent TV will be on sale later this year.
Innovations play a major role in demonstrating the company’s research and development capabilities, and Lenovo is known for producing some of the first-of-its-like computing devices, which include the world’s first foldable laptop — ThinkPad X1 Fold (review) and even the Lenovo Yoga Book 9i, a laptop with two displays.
