Mohammed Shami was asked to name the best batsman in the world at the moment and he was quick to name his former captain.
Premier India pacer Mohammed Shami heaped praises on his teammates Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma as he labelled them as the best and most dangerous batter in the world respectively. Shami is currently recovering from an ankle injury and has not been involved in competitive cricket since ODI World Cup where he was the leading wicket-taker.
Speaking at News18 India’s event called ‘Chaupaa,’ Shami was asked to name the best batsman in the world at the moment and he was quick to name his former captain.
“Virat Kohli is the best batsman in the world. Virat has just broken a lot of records. I feel Virat is the best and Rohit Sharma is the most dangerous batter in the world,” Shami told News18.
Shami has played under both Rohit and Kohli’s captaincy as he has been one of the most consistent pacers for India in the past decade.
The Indian paceman was recently conferred with the Arjuna Award this year after his excellent year.
The 33-year-old claimed 24 wickets in 7 matches in the showpiece event where India ended up as runner-up. He failed to make it to the XI in the first four matches but later when Hardik Pandya got injured he got the chance to play against New Zealand in the league stage and he made an instant impact with a five-fer.
Shami also talked about the rise of the Indian bowlers in the ODI World Cup as he suggested that the roots of it were formed in 2013 and 2014.

“People talk about the performance of the bowlers during the World Cup, but, if you have to look at the overall picture, you have to go back to 2013 and 2014. That is where the journey started. If we look at the facts now, we only had three fast bowlers performing in the World Cup this time, which makes us believe that we have set the benchmark for future bowlers,” Shami added.
Meanwhile, Shami missed out in India’s squad for the first two Tests against England and is unlikely to return for the last three matches also.
