Weather Update: MeT Department forecasts rainfall in north peninsular India; Delhi to have clear sky – Full Forecast 

For today, the weather forecast agency has predicted a mainly clear sky with mist in the morning, while the minimum and maximum temperatures are expected to settle at around 7 and 21 degrees Celsius, respectively. 

Under the influence of a trough over peninsular India, isolated to scattered light rainfall is predicted over north Peninsular India during February 9-11. As per the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) forecast, strong surface winds of 15-25 kmph are likely over the plains of Northwest India during the next 3 days. 

Due to a cyclonic circulation over sub-Himalayan West Bengal, light to moderate rainfall/snowfall is likely over Arunachal Pradesh today. Further, isolated rainfall is predicted over West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya and Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur & Tripura on February 7.

Delhi records improved air quality with rise in temperature

On Tuesday, the national capital recorded a maximum temperature of 21 degrees Celsius, two notches below the normal, while the air quality improved significantly, settling in the ‘moderate’ category, officials mentioned. 

As per IMD, Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 7 degrees Celsius, two notches below the season’s average. 

The MeT Department has predicted strong surface winds with a speed of 20-30 kmph in Delhi, during the next two days.

“There will be strong surface winds with a speed of 20-30 kmph during the day on Wednesday and Thursday and after February 10, we can expect changes in the temperature, but until then, there won’t be any major fluctuations,” Kuldeep Srivastava, scientist and head of the Regional Weather Forecasting Centre told PTI. 

On Tuesday, the air quality index (AQI) in Delhi was recorded in the ‘moderate’ category with a reading of 141, according to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data.

On Monday, the 24-hour air quality index (AQI) stood at 180 whereas it was 282 on Sunday, the data showed.

Cold wave in hilly regions 

As per the IMD forecast, a fall in minimum temperatures by 2-3°C is likely over many parts of Northwest, East, and Central India during the next 3 days, and no significant change after that. 

Besides, cold wave conditions in isolated pockets over Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi are predicted today.
