Last week, Google released the image generation feature for its AI chatbot Bard. Similar to AI image generation in Microsoft’s Copilot, Google’s Bard also allows users to create AI-generated images by giving text prompts in the chatbot. Now, after image generation, Google is reportedly planning to change the name of its chatbot Bard to Gemini, similar to how Microsoft rebranded its AI chatbot Bing to Copilot.

A developer named Dylan Roussel on the platform X (previously Twitter), revealed a new changelog by Google, which apparently includes a list of updates Google is planning for its AI chatbot Google Bard. According to the screenshot of the changelog, the updates will be released on February 7, and once released, it will include the swapping of the name Bard for Gemini.
The move aligns with Google’s plan to make its LLM model Gemini integrated across products. Notably, Gemini is the AI model behind Bard, so Google might be deciding to push its AI model Gemini altogether.
Along with the rebranding, the screenshot of the changelog also reveals that Google might introduce a paid ‘Advanced’ tier powered by Gemini Ultra. Just like how OpenAI offers users its advanced large language model GPT-4 at a paid subscription, Google is reportedly planning to introduce the advanced version of Gemini at a cost. The advanced version will introduce enhanced multi-modal capabilities, improved coding support, and the ability to explore and analyze files and documents in greater depth. Additionally, Gemini is expanding its reach to include Canada in this release, marking its first availability in that country since its initial launch.

Google launched its LLM Gemini last year, which included three versions – Gemini Nano, Gemini Pro, and Gemini Ultra. According to Google, its LLM model is capable of “performing complex tasks like logical reasoning, coding, following nuanced instructions, and creative collaboration.”
But that’s not all. Google is also planning to launch a dedicated Gemini app for smartphone users. Gemini is a new app from Google that lets you use Google AI on your phone for various tasks, such as learning, writing, and planning. Gemini will work with other Google services, such as Gmail, Maps, and YouTube. Android users will get a separate app for Gemini, while iOS users may be able to access it through the Google app.
According to leaked Google’s changelog, the app will be available only on some devices. Gemini will also support more languages, including Japanese, Korean, and English, in most parts of the world, except for some European countries and regions. Google further plans to add more countries and languages to Gemini soon.

However, it is important to note that Google has not confirmed anything yet, but we can expect the big announcements this week.
