PM-Kisan Scheme: The allocation per farmer is likely to surge from the existing Rs 6,000 a year to Rs 8,000 a year

The central government is considering increasing the amount given to farmers under its flagship Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) Yojana, ahead of the general elections scheduled for April–May 2024, according to a report by CNBC-TV18 citing sources. It added that the allocation per farmer is likely to surge from the existing Rs 6,000 a year to Rs 8,000 a year.

According to the report, the Modi government is also considering raising provisions under the PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, and the final decision to which will be taken soon.

Currently, under the PM-KISAN scheme, eligible farmers get Rs 2,000 every four months, which is Rs 6,000 annually. The money is provided each year in three instalments — April-July, August-November and December-March. The fund is directly transferred to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries.

The scheme was launched in February 2019.

So far, in 15 installments, the government has transferred a total amount of over Rs 2.75 lakh crore to the beneficiaries under the PM-KISAN scheme.

On November 15, Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the 14th installment of the Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi Scheme (PM-KISAN) worth Rs 18,000 crore for about 8.5 crore eligible farmers.

The 14th installment under the PM-KISAN was released in July, 5 months after the 13th instalment in February 2023. The 12th installment was released in October 2022, while the 11th installment was released in May 2022.

Meanwhile, the PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana entails providing 5 kg of foodgrains per person per month, over and above the regular monthly National Food Security Act (NFSA) foodgrains.

1) Visit the official website — pmkisan.gov.in

2) Now, click on the tab ‘Know Your Status’ on the right side of the page

3) Enter your registration number and fill Captcha Code, and select ‘Get Data’ option
