Piyush Chawla feels that there is no baggage on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma but they might be thinking of helping India to get the trophy home.
Piyush Chawla feels that senior starts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma must be thinking of doing something special to help India win the T20 World Cup trophy this year. The schedule for the mega ICC event is out as India are placed in Group A alongside Pakistan, USA, Canada and Ireland. After winning the inaugural edition, India have failed to get their hands on the T20 WC trophy despite reaching the final once and semi-final twice.
The primary focus of the Indian team in the first half of this year is going to be on planning for the T20 WC which will be played in West Indies and USA.
The big questions regarding Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s place in the T20I set-up remained unanswered thus far. The duo has not played a T20I for India since the 2022 T20 World Cup where they suffered defeat to England in the semi-final.
Chawla feels that there is no baggage on the star duo but they might be thinking of helping India to get the trophy home.

“You can look at it differently as well because Kohli and Rohit must be thinking the other way (Asked if they will carry baggage from the past). They want to do something special to really win the World Cup. You don’t think like there is baggage or something because once you are on the field, you don’t think about what happened in the past, you are just living that current situation. If you ask me personally, I would say that experience matters in crunch situations,” Piyush Chawla told Star Sports.
However, former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar feels that the selectors have to take the big call regarding Kohli and Rohit’s T20I future and a lot of it will depend on their form in IPL 2024/

“The selectors can just wait and watch. You play the waiting game. They have to wait until the time for selection comes. Then they have to make tough calls. And it will be very easy for them to see – Rohit Sharma’s form, Virat Kohli’s form, and everyone else who are competing their form in the IPL,” Manjrekar added.
