Income Tax Return (ITR) can be filed easily through e-filing portals, and apps or you can take the help of chartered accountants. You can file your tax return directly online through the income tax department’s website.

Income tax return (ITR) Filing step by step Guide:
Step 1: Go to the Income Tax e-Filing portal: (https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/)
Step 2: Log in using your user ID (PAN), Password, and Captcha code. Click ‘Login.’
Step 3: Navigate to the ‘e-File’ menu and click on ‘Income Tax Return.’
Step 4: On the Income Tax Return Page:
– Your PAN will be automatically filled.
– Choose the ‘Assessment Year.’
– Select the ‘ITR Form Number.’
– Pick ‘Filing Type’ as ‘Original/Revised Return.’
– Choose ‘Submission Mode’ as ‘Prepare and Submit Online.’
Step 5: Click ‘Continue.’
Step 6: Read the instructions carefully and fill in all applicable fields in the Online ITR Form. Save your progress by clicking ‘Save Draft’ periodically.

Step 7: Choose a verification option in the ‘Taxes Paid and Verification’ tab:
– ‘I would like to e-Verify.’
– ‘I would like to e-Verify later within 120 days.’
– ‘I don’t want to e-Verify and would like to send a signed ITR-V.’
Step 8: Click ‘Preview and Submit,’ then verify all entered data.
Step 9: ‘Submit’ the ITR.
Step 10: If you choose ‘I would like to e-Verify,’ do so through methods like EVC/OTP, generated through a bank ATM, Aadhaar OTP, prevalidated bank account, or prevalidated Demat account.
Step 11: If you chose the other two verification options, the ITR is submitted but not complete until verified later using ‘My Account > e-Verify Return’ or by sending a signed to IT department’s postal address.
Step 12: Enter the EVC/OTP within 60 seconds. If not, the ITR will be auto-submitted. Verify later using ‘My Account > e-Verify Return’ or by sending a signed ITR-V.
Step 13: To view the uploaded ITR, follow further instructions on the portal.
