Google Maps , a widely used navigation app, has recently rolled out a new feature enabling users to share their live location with friends and family. This functionality, reminiscent of features in messaging platforms like WhatsApp and Telegram , provides users with the flexibility to determine who can access their location and for how long.
Additionally, it offers supplementary details such as device battery status, charging status, and estimated time of arrival when navigating.

To cease sharing your live location, follow these steps:
- Open Google Maps, tap on the ‘Sharing via link’ option.
- Press the ‘Stop’ button to end the location-sharing session.
In contrast to platforms like WhatsApp or Telegram, where location sharing is confined to the app itself, Google Maps enables users to send their location through other applications. Notably, this live location-sharing feature remains functional even if ‘Location History’ is turned off.
Given Google Maps’ prevalence as a pre-installed app on most Android devices and its popularity among iOS users, this functionality proves convenient for those who prefer not to confine themselves to a limited set of apps.
It’s important to note that this feature is not available for children under 13 years of age in India. Furthermore, it does not support Google Workspace domain accounts and is not accessible on Google Maps Go.
