NEW DELHI: Kolkata’s iconic ‘Indian Museum‘ on Friday was subjected to a bomb scare as authorities received a threatening email. As a precautionary measure, Kolkata police launched a search operation at the over 200-year-old establishment.

The bomb squad from Kolkata Police conducted a thorough search and sanitization operation within the museum premises. In light of the situation, public entry to the museum has been temporarily suspended.
To ensure the safety of the premises, the bomb squad, along with sniffer dogs, a quick response team (QRT), and a large police contingent, have been deployed in and around the central Kolkata building. In addition, the cyber section of the police has initiated an investigation to trace the origin of the threatening email.
Founded in 1814, the Indian Museum holds the distinction of being not only the oldest but also the largest multipurpose museum in the Indian subcontinent and the Asia-Pacific region, as stated on its official website.
