NEW DELHI: An earthquake of magnitude 6.3 on the Richter Scale hit the Kuril Islands in Japan on Thursday, according to the National Center for Seismology. Another strong earthquake measuring 5 on the Richter Scale hit the same region a few minutes later.

No tsunami warning has been issued as yet.
The earthquakes were recorded at depths of 10km and 40km.
