Petrol, and Diesel Prices on December 20: There is a slight increase in the prices of crude oil in the international market. Around 6 am on Wednesday, WTI crude was being sold at $ 73.44 per barrel. At the same time, Brent crude has reached $ 79.23 per barrel. Oil marketing companies in the country have released the latest rates of petrol and diesel. In India, fuel prices are revised every morning at 6 am. Before June 2017, price revision was done every 15 days.

In Bihar, petrol has become cheaper by 43 paise and diesel by 40 paise. In Rajasthan, the price of petrol has fallen by 35 paise and that of diesel by 32 paise. The prices of petrol and diesel have also declined in Goa, Jammu-Kashmir and Jharkhand. On the other hand, in Maharashtra petrol has become costlier by 58 paise and diesel by 55 paise. Petrol has become costlier by 27 paise and diesel by 24 paise in Madhya Pradesh. Petrol and diesel rates have also increased slightly in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Manipur.
At present, petrol in Delhi is being sold at Rs 96.72 a litre while diesel is being sold at Rs 89.62 a litre. Whereas in Mumbai, petrol is available at Rs 106.31 and diesel at Rs 94.27 per litre. While petrol in Kolkata is Rs 106.03 and diesel is Rs 92.76 per litre. On the other hand, petrol is being sold at Rs 102.63 and diesel at Rs 94.24 per litre in Chennai.

In India, oil marketing companies (OMCs) such as Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum determine petrol and diesel prices. This is done daily, and rates are determined in accordance with the price of crude oil throughout the world.
Why do fuel prices vary across states?
The rates for each day, whether new or unchanged, are announced at 6 am on the day. These, however, vary from state to state; this is due to criteria such as Value Added Tax (VAT), freight charges, local taxes, etc.
