“Dense fog very likely in isolated pockets over north Punjab and north Haryana during morning hours of next 5 days and over Assam & Meghalaya & Tripura on 17th & 18th December, 2023,” IMD said.
The India Meteorological Department on Saturday (December 16) predicted that severe fog is likely to persist in certain areas over northern Punjab and northern Haryana in the morning hours, while the Southern states are likely to witness intense period of rainfall activity over the next two days.
According to the latest weather prediction by IMD, heavy fog has been predicted for Assam, Meghalaya, and Tripura on December 17 and 18, 2023. “Dense fog very likely in isolated pockets over north Punjab and north Haryana during morning hours of next 5 days and over Assam & Meghalaya & Tripura on 17th & 18th December, 2023,” IMD said.
In the northern regions, isolated light rainfall or snowfall is predicted over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad on December 17.

IMD’s rainfall warning
As per the Met Office, for the next two days, the southern regions of India, particularly Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Mahe, are poised to experience light to moderate rainfall at select locations.
Meanwhile, a broader swathe of Kerala and Mahe is anticipated to witness this precipitation. Simultaneously, Lakshadweep is set to encounter rainfall till December 19.
Heavy rainfall is expected in isolated pockets in the region, with the southern parts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala bracing for isolated heavy showers till December 18, and Lakshadweep on the December 17-18.

IMD issues Orange alert for four Kerala districts
IMD has issued an orange alert for four districts in Kerala, forecasting isolated instances of very heavy rainfall on Sunday.
Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, and Idukki have been included in the areas placed under the Orange Alert, as announced by the IMD. An orange alert signifies the likelihood of very heavy rains, ranging from 6 cm to 20 cm of rainfall, according to the IMD.

Temperature drops in Delhi
Delhi on Saturday registered a minimum temperature of 5.5 degrees Celsius, marking a deviation of three notches below the seasonal average, as reported by the IMD. The IMD anticipates shallow fog for Sunday, with expected maximum and minimum temperatures settling around 25 and 7 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Delhi experienced its lowest minimum temperature of the season on Friday at 4.9 degrees Celsius, surpassing even Shimla, which recorded a minimum temperature of 6.8 degrees Celsius.
